Renee Kathleen Zellweger
Renee Kathleen Zellweger was born on
April 25 1969 in Katy, Texas, Her mother Kjellfridirene (Andreassen), is a
Norwegian-born former nurse and midwife, with Norwegian, Kven (Finnish) and
Swedish descent. Her father, Emil Erich Zellweger, is an engineer born in
Switzerland. They were married in 1963. Renee has a brother named Drew
Zellweger, a marketing executive who was born on the 15th of February 1967.
Renee was interested in acting in high school as she worked in the drama group.
She took an acting course at the University of Texas (Austin) and began to
consider acting as a profession. She had a strong desire to become an actor
after graduation, but Hollywood isn't easy to get into. Renee decided not to
leave Texas and went to audition at Houston for roles. Matthew McConaughey was
another Hollywood newcomer she met while working on the set of Texas Chainsaw
Massacre 2: The Next Generation (1994). Renee observed him on a project which
caught her attention. She auditioned and was awarded the role in Love and A.45
(1994). The role was a success that earned her the critical praise for her to
make the decision to move to Los Angeles. Her biggest break came when she was
cast in another role in The Whole Wide World (1996). Cameron Crowe was busy
casting Jerry Maguire (1996), starring Tom Cruise. Crowe was considering such
actresses as Cameron Diaz, Bridget Fonda, Winona Ryder, and Marisa Tomei, when
he saw Zellweger's performance in The Whole Wide World (1996). He auditioned
Zellweger, and felt certain the actress was his Dorothy Boyd. After her
successes in a couple of independent films, Renee felt confident enough to
return to the big-budget Hollywood film industry. Meryl Streep co-starred in
One True Thing (1998). She also starred opposite Jim Carrey in Me, Myself
& Irene (2000) and began to be romantically involved with Carrey soon
afterward. as the lead in Bridget Jones's Diary (2001).
